1970s Stella Stout Floral Maxi Skirt
1970s Stella Stout Floral Maxi Skirt
Bright primary colors and beautiful construction will make this skirt a year round favorite. While spring-summery in pattern, the maxi length could also pair great with boots and a sweater. I wasn’t familiar with this label, so I did some research on Stella Sloat and she sounds like quite the character. Here is an excerpt from her obituary in the New York Times in 1985:
“Miss Sloat was especially known for her tailored skirts and her use of fine fabrics, which she bought on regular trips to Europe long before it became common practice in the industry.
''She would go to France on an ocean liner with a maid and trunks,'' recalled James Dery, executive vice president of Dalton Cashmeres, for whom she worked from 1972 until 1977. ''She always stayed at the Ritz. When I went there with her, the place would go wild. There would be flowers waiting for her. Everyone knew her.''
